Suite op. 3 by Leoš Janáček dates back between 1889-1891. It is a result of efforts to create a large orchestral piece in which the author employs his contemporary orientation to folklore sources. The composer denoted the work with a simple title as "op. 3" and in 1924 he commented the work as "Composition". Later, the authors of biographies and catalogues mentioned a Serenade as well as a Suite and the latter was rather quickly established thanks to its use at the posthumous premiere of the work on September 23, 1928 and at the first publication of the score in 1958. The present edition returns the Suite back to the version from April 1891, i. e. to the state before its particular movements re-gained independence or where used in following artistic projects of the author.
